Be Still – Patience

Be Still And Know

I have lived most of my life struggling with patience. Yes, patience. I often joke that I have the patience of a gnat. As you know, gnats are very persistent. That's me!

Slowly and slowly, as the years have gone by, for one reason or another, I have realized that I am not in control. Shocker! As much as I try to be, from precision planning to not planning, I am not in control. I have to remind myself in every situation time and time again, BE STILL.

It is not in my timing, it is not my way, it is not my will.

It is in God's timing, it is God's way, it is God's will.

Patience takes time. Patience takes trust.

Lack of patience can cause anxiety. I still have anxiety, in those moments of upset, I remind myself that I am not in control. I remind myself to "Be still and Know".

At one point in my house in every room, I had wooden plaques or either a decal on the wall that said "Be Still & Know", to remind me. I know I must remain still and breathe.

This is a learned behavior for me. It is difficult. It is a challenge.

The quality or virtue of patience is presented as either forbearance or endurance. In the former sense, it is a quality of self-restraint or of not giving way to anger, even in the face of provocation; it is attributed to both God and man and is closely related to mercy and compassion.
