A Blog Introduction to Kevin Barhydt

I met Kevin through Twitter. I immediately was intrigued by his story and his openness, willingness, candidness, honesty, and kindness.

I have never witnessed a man be so open about their past, especially when they have faced being abandoned, adopted, sexually abused, recovering from addiction, and they are still working on that recovery.

A Glimpse Into The Beginning

Kevin Barhydt

Born in 1962 as Stephen Michael. Relinquished at birth, Kevin was placed into the foster care system. At the age of 2 months old, he was then homes with a family and formally adopted at the age of 1.

Molested at 9 years old, he began smoking at 10 years old, he drank his first six-pack of Schlitz at 11 years old, overdosed on barbiturates in school at the young age of 12.

Placed in the back of a police car at 13 years old, taken out of his home and away from his adopted family when he was 14.

Kevin then lived in two additional foster homes, a group home, a detention center, and was raped at the age of 15.

By the age of 16, Kevin's oldest daughter was born, by the age of 17, Kevin's youngest daughter was born.

At 18, Kevin joined the Navy, got married at 19, only to be abandoned by his wife, she left him for another man when he was 20.

Tossed out of the Navy, reckless, careless, and thoughtless, Kevin robbed his childhood friend's mother’s house and was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail at the age of  21.

By 22, Kevin was even worse off as he was arrested for assault, drugs, and a DWI which he could not even recall. It did not stop there, at 23 life gets even harder.

Then before 24 years of age, Kevin finds recovery!

So how does an abandoned, sexually molested, confused, drug addict, an alcoholic, high-school dropout, with a criminal record, turn his life around?

Kevin educates the world on adoptees, sexual abuse, drug addiction, and recovery via Twitter, YouTube, and his other various social media resources.

In 1986 Kevin became sober (34 years now and counting), with a Master's Degree in education.

I am not going to go any further into Kevin's story because I feel that it is of the utmost importance for each and every one of you to hear the remainder and facts of Kevin's story for yourselves, from Kevin Barhydt directly!

I ask that you please subscribe to his YouTube Channel, listen to Kevin tell his story.

He is a survivor, Kevin is not a victim. I truly believe that Kevin and I crossed paths for Kevin to share his testimony through many channels, not just his Twitter and Youtube channel, also through me.

As everyone knows, I am passionate about raising awareness for the same causes.

Thank you Kevin for bringing awareness to abandonment, child sexual abuse, survivor hood, addiction, recovery, sobriety, moving on towards a healthy life.
